Porthleven Harbour | Cornwall
Porthleven harbour is a great place to visit all year round however, in the winter times the harbourside pathways can be dangerous due to the treacherous seas and high winds the harbour can be exposed to. Construction of the Porthleven harbour started in 1811 with an original budget of £30,000 to complete the works!
Stormy seas are a regular occurrence in Porthleven bringing many local storm watchers, the swell crashes over harbour walls smashing into the clock tower which stands strong by the side of the Atlantic ocean. The depth at the inner part of the harbour is around 2 metres and is still a working port to this day.
Porthleven gets its name from 'porth' a Cornish word meaning port or harbour and 'elvan' which comes from 'St Elvan' the patron saint of Breage.
