Porthcurno
Known for looking like a tropical paradise, Porthcurno has an award-winning beach and it's easy to see why. Located in the far West of Cornwall with fine white sand and turquoise waters backed by granite cliffs, it's an oasis of natural beauty. It is also world famous for being the location of The Minack Theatre, an open air theatre carved into the side of the cliff face.
Top things to do...
The Minack Theatre - Carved into the cliff side with stunning views across the vast Atlantic Ocean, this world famous landmark was originally bought for £100 by Rowena Cade in the 1920’s - Here she built the open-air theatre along with her home, The Minack House. Rowena and her helpers built the theatre with mainly hand tools and pure elbow grease! A unique atmospheric landmark with such a great story and history, you can book tickets to upcoming performances online.
Browse the museum of global communications – This award-winning museum allows you to discover the story of how a small valley in Cornwall became an important host to present and past worldwide communications. Visit the telegraph museum – Explore well kept gardens and an interesting collection of contemporary sculptures linked to the history of telegraphic communications. They also hold community art projects inside. |
Hike the coastal path – The Porthcurno to Lands End walk is around 5 miles long, you will pass some amazing coastline, secluded coves and beaches - Possibly spotting some seals swimming along the shore!
Go for a dip at a world class beach - Pedn Vounder beach is one of the most amazing beaches in the whole of Cornwall, it is quite a climb down over the rocks, so be prepared! But so worth the extra effort when you get down to the soft white sand! The 80-ton rock – Known as 'Logans Rock', was once perched on the cliffs overlooking Pedn Vounder beach until 1824, when a group of seamen dislodged the ‘immoveable’ rock. However, outraged locals made them put it back in place after claiming it had become a tourist attraction. |

If you only do one thing...Visit Pedn Vounder Beach!
You could mistake it for the Caribbean on the right day - However the beach entrance is not for the faint hearted as you will have to climb down a steep rocky path, but like all its visitors have said it is well worth the effort to get down to this beautiful spotless beach. It is a natural cove with no amenities, so take all you need down with you. |
